Messier 83.
Also known as the Southern Pinwheel Galaxy, this is a barred spiral galaxy located in the constellation of Hydra. This sits at approximately 15 million light years away. That’s pretty far. If you weren’t aware of how light travel works, it effectively means that we are seeing this galaxy as it looked 15 million years ago. Bonkers right?
That’s only just scratching the surface though, there are many more galaxies that are much further away but this one is close enough that I can capture it relatively easily.
